The largest not-for-profit trade association representing independent book publishers.

Benjamin Franklin Awards™ recognizes excellence in independent publishing.
Publications, grouped by genre are judged on editorial and design merit by top
practitioners in each field. All entrants receive critique sheets with advice on
how to improve their publications, as well as words of appreciation for the good
work produced.
   
    
THE ERIC HOFFER AWARD
for Short Prose & Independent Books
  The book deadline is January 21st. The prose deadline is March 31st.
      
Eric Hoffer Awards: Two grand prizes are awarded annually: one for short prose
(i.e. fiction and creative nonfiction) and one for independent books from small,
micro, and academic presses, as well as self-published books.
    


Upon registering for the Eric Hoffer Award, a book is automatically considered for
the Montaigne Medal.  The Montaigne Medal is awarded to the most thought-provoking title(s). These are books that either illuminate, progress, or redirect thought.


Upon registering for the Eric Hoffer Award, a book is automatically considered for
the da Vinci Eye.  The da Vinci Eye is awarded to the title(s) with superior cover artwork.
Cover art is judged on both content and style.

ForeWord Reviews:  A trade journal published six times yearly with the tagline, “Reviews of Good Books Independently Published.” The magazine is distributed primarily to
librarians and booksellers to familiarize them with upcoming books from small,
independent, and university presses, as well as self-published books. The
average issue of ForeWord reaches an audience of 20,000 readers.
